John Lewis Case Study
NCS won the complete painting and decorating package for the new John Lewis flagship store in Birmingham New Street in 2015. The project began in April of that year with the grand opening in September 2015.
During this project we had a team of over 25 painters and decorators, working around the clock to get the project completed on time. We dealt with over 100 architects’ drawings which were updated daily, so we needed to keep a close eye on any specification changes.
The job was over 5 floors consisting of over 100 different top branded paint colours and designer wall papers. Our painting team sprayed all the soffits and services, and our decorating team hung all the wallpapers, wide vinyls and bespoke digital prints.
Around the full perimeter of the store we used a laser to add a washline to section off the different colours of the top and bottom of the walls. We also undertook the painting of all back of house areas including staff offices, meeting rooms, service areas and the service yard. We painted walls, ceilings and flooring which included installing a Watco 3 part Epoxy non slip floor paint to all MOE and storage areas.
This was a very tricky project regarding access to the store as it was located within the city centre where extensive building works were being carried out on the complete refurbishment of New Street Train Station, which John Lewis is attached to. This meant deliveries had to be coordinated efficiently and strictly adhered too.
On this project there were numerous last minute design changes which we worked closely with the architect and the client to make sure we delivered when required. It was a challenging, but rewarding project to work on, and one which we really enjoyed.
